I’m looking to start my 7 month old on a safe formulas. I see you recommend Lebenswert stage 1 for the entire first year. Is there a difference in nutritional content (other than the maltodextrin) from stage 1,2 and 3? In particular I’m concerned about iron. Does the stage 1 have enough iron for his age or should I supplement with a vitamin?

Hi! I do not necessarily recommend Lebenswert 1 for the first year of life. I’ve said that it is acceptable to feed your LO stage 1 for the first year, but that is up to the parent to decide. We don’t sell stage 2 and 3 because they are the same product as Holle 2 and 3. Stage 1 does contain iron. Stage 2 and 3 do contain more iron than stage 1.
Hi, I’ve started supplementing my 5 week old on Lebenswert 5 days ago…working up to half his feeds on it, the other half breast milk, he’s been a gassy baby from the start even just on the breast milk, but the formula is causing more gas, much harder poops (i know from my previous baby formula always causes the poop to become harder and change color) but he’s clearly uncomfortable from it, how long should i wait to let his tummy get used to it before I switch to different formula?
I’d say 2 weeks unless your LO is too uncomfortable.
I don’t see iron listed on the label but I see from one the replies Stage 1 does contain iron. Can you tell me how much iron is in there??

It’s really up to you. Holle 2 has more iron than Lebenswert 1 and is specially formulated for babies after the 6 month. We address this question on our FAQ page, too.

We just received our order of Lebenswert, thank you! Trying to figure out the preparation instructions though. I read the product page but not sure I’m following the mL for water amount/drink amount and scoops. Can you just tell me how many scoops per ounce of water?
It is roughly 1 scoop per fluid ounce of powder, but it is not quite exact.
Why isn’t this approved by the FDA? Is it because it’s not made in the US?
It is because these companies have never applied for FDA approval. They are not seeking to sell commercially in the USA.
The FDA does not approve any formula. There is the 1980 Formula Act that requires all formula sold in the US meets a preset standard. You can Google and read about this legislation.

Is the milk from grass fed cows?
Does the powdered milk need to be refrigerated once opened? Ordered 2 boxes about 3 months ago just in case…we made it to 9 months! Just starting to use it today,probably a bottle a day to start and then increase for the next 3 months. Does this sound ok or should I be trying another tactic?
Way to go on 9 months! That is awesome! The powder needs to be stored in an airtight container, but it does not need to be refrigerated. Yes, a bottle a day and gradually increasing is a great plan. You could also try mixing bottles half prepared formula and half breastmilk.

Yes, you can definitely prepare and store for up to 24 hours in the fridge.
If I prepare a days worth and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours, do I need to let it cool down to a certain temperature before putting it in the fridge?
I have always moved it straight to the fridge, but it wouldn’t hurt to let it cool 20-30 minutes first.

Aside from Holle 2 being for 6 months onwards and Holle 3 for 1 year onwards. The vitamin and mineral content of Holle 3 is higher than Holle 2. You may want to check these images for comparison.

It’s not necessary to transition to stage 2 if your LO is doing well on stage 1. Stage 2 formulas do have more iron than a first infant milk, which is important because a baby’s natural iron stores begin to deplete at 6 months of age.

The fat content of Lebenswert 1 is 3.1 g compared to 5.6 g in American formula. Is this something to be concerned with?

Which formula do you recommend that I feed my 6 week old baby for gas problems? I tried giving my baby Lenenswert 1 but she would get fussy and gassy we switched her to organic similac tummy care out of desperation and the gas went away. I really like Hipp and don’t want to continue similac, do you have any suggestions?
